Android and TMobile Quietly Thriving

With all of the buzz about AT&T and the iPhone, Verizon and the Blackberry Storm, T-Mobile often gets shut out of conversations about who is, and will be, dominating the mobile market in the next three to five years. Often people forget about the less vocal, but very satisfied, users of T-Mobile's notoriously reliable cell service and its "iPhone killer": the G1 Android.

This week, T-Mobile released some stats that might surprise you about how popular the G1 is, and how successful the Android Market, Google/T-Mobile's version of Apple’s App Store, really is. According to a poster on Mobiletechreview.com, Tmobile claims that, on average, each G1 user has downloaded more than 40 applications from the Android Market. This is actually a surprising statistic considering how the iPhone and its mobile applications have hogged the headlines, and certainly shows that users are just as enamored with the useful (and often addicting) applications available for the Android handset.

Another thing that often goes overlooked is the fact that going with T-mobile and an Android can actually be cheaper than the other alternatives, especially if you take advantage of some of the deals and coupon codes that they offer through affiliates - like these Tmobile coupon codes from CouponCactus.com (my personal favorite site for online coupons and promo codes) - which can get you a $30 rebate when you sign up, or free shipping on your new phone.

Now I know people are in love with their i-whatevers, but I for one do not want to pay the $80+ per month for the plan you have to have in order to use it. My contract is almost up, and with how popular it seems the Android and its applications are among its users, I’m thinking I might try out one of these Tmobile coupons or sign up deals and save myself some money this time around.
